The Bachelor of Science in Multimedia Arts Technology is designed to prepare students for career opportunities in audio engineering, multimedia content creation, sound reinforcement, computer programming for multimedia projects, and technology-based performance. Students pursuing this degree receive intensive, hands-on instruction and utilize state-of-the-art equipment and studio spaces to achieve artistic, technological, and career goals.
Admission procedures for the Multimedia Arts Technology program include:
- An application to the University during the initial filing period
- An application to the Irving S. Gilmore School of Music including a letter outlining the student’s background, interests, and goals
- Attending an Irving S. Gilmore School of Music New Student Admissions Day
- Completion of an interview with Multimedia Arts Technology faculty (which includes a short, prepared musical performance on any instrument including electronic devices)
- Submission of a portfolio

Prospective or current WMU students may apply to the B.S. MAT major a maximum of two times. Qualified students will be admitted to the program based on the following criteria:
- The extent to which their goals are in line with the outcomes of the program
- The extent to which their knowledge and background supports achieving these goals
- Available space in the program
While not required, students are encouraged to bring their own laptop computers. It is strongly advised that students use a Mac or Windows based PC as opposed to Chromebooks, iPads, or other similar devices.
